German Media Consulta wins tender for radio and tv programmes for Belarus

Brussels (PAP) - The European Commission announced on Thursday that Germany's Media Consulta had won a tender for broadcasting radio and tv programmes to Belarus, to be financed by the European Union.

Media Consult will cooperate with partners from Poland (European Radio for Belarus), Lithuania (Radio Baltic Wave), Belarus (journalists, civil society and NGOs), and Russia (RTVi).

Media Consulta won the tender against the Polish consortium composed of the Polish Television and Bialystok Radio.

The two-million-euro project will cover radio and TV broadcasts, internet, support to the Belarusian written press and training of journalists. The radio and TV broadcasting programmes will start in February before the March presidential elections in Belarus.

The objective of the project is to provide independent and balanced information, including news and analysis on Belarus itself, and material to increase understanding of the EU and its 25 Member States. Broadcasting will be half and half in Belarusian and Russian language.
