Belarus, Russia's Gazprom clinch natural gas exports deal

MOSCOW. Jan 1 (Interfax) - The threat of Belarus being left without Russian natural gas from January 1 was gone as a deal was signed two minutes before the end of 2006 in which Russian gas monopoly Gazprom agreed to charge Belarus a reduced price of $100 per 1,000 cubic meters in 2007.

The price would rise gradually in subsequent years, reaching the European level in 2011 under the terms of the agreement, Gazprom chief executive Alexei Miller told reporters.

It would make up 67% of the European price less transmission expenditure in 2008, 80% in 2009, and 90% in 2010, and would reach the European mark in 2011.
