Imposition of oil duties in Belarus runs counter to agreements with Russia - ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 4 (Interfax) - The Russian Economic Development and Trade Ministry has regarded as contradicting bilateral trade and economic agreements the introduction of duties on Russian transit oil in Belarus.

A ministry press release issued on Thursday says Minsk took the step without consulting the Russian side.

It also says that the restriction of free commodity transit "may have a negative impact on implementing plans of further integration between the two countries, including the plans of forming a Customs Union."

A Russian government source told news agencies that "an attempt of retroactive introduction of such provisions shows full contempt for civilized rules of trade accepted in the world."

"Nobody has permitted such things and no country in the world permits them today," the source said.
