Millions of dollars lost by Belarusian firms due to border strikes

According to the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communication, tens of millions of dollars have been lost by Belarusian companies due to the ongoing customs strikes in Poland.

The Ministry has announced that around three thousand HGVs (TIR trucks) bound for Belarus and Russia have been waiting to cross the border from Poland.

The situation on the Polish border has reportedly hit the Belarusian media head-on. According to the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communication every lorry waiting in line to cross the border costs Belarusian transport companies around three hundred dollars a day.

In the border areas of Grodno and Brest in Belarus, it has been reported that around five hundred companies have been hit hard due to the strikes.

A meeting is to be held between Belarusian and Polish border guards today over the crossing of cars and other vehicles not carrying any cargo that would need additional customs clearance.
