Representatives of Cuban Foreign Ministry are in Minsk on visit

The intensification of the Belarusian-Cuban cooperation is being discussed during a visit of a delegation of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Deputy Foreign Minister Dagoberto Rodriguez on January 25-27. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Belarus Omar Medina Quintero told BelTA, the Cuban delegation is expected to hold talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Economy Ministry, and the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.

On January 26, the Cuban guests will meet with Deputy Chairman of the house of Representatives Valery Ivanov and members of National Assembly's working group for cooperation with the Cuban Parliament.

The sides are expected to discuss the development of Belarusian-Cuban interstate relations, ways to step up the bilateral ties, adjust plans of cooperation in various areas.

The Foreign Ministry told BelTA, in January-November 2008 Belarus-Cuba trade totalled $49.2 million, with export as high as 34.7 million and import as high as $14.5 million. The foreign trade surplus made up $20.2 million.

Belarus supplied Cuba with buses, tractors, potash fertilisers, combustion engines, and trucks, importing raw sugar and vaccines.
