Ukraine, Belarus to discuss power supplies

Ukraine and Belarus will hold power supply talks in Minsk on January 30, 2009, Oleg Bugayev, Ukraine's first deputy fuel and energy minister, told RBC. He confirmed that Ukraine still insisted on a price of $45 per megawatt-hour. Belarus is ready to buy power at $43.5 per megawatt-hour.

Commenting on the restoration of power supply to Moldova, Bugayev noted that Moldova had taken an unconstructive position. Ukraine was being offered a price of $48 per megawatt-hour, while the least Ukraine could accept was $52. In 2009, Moldova will be buying electricity from the Russia-controlled Moldovan district power plant for $58 per megawatt-hour.
