Russia-Belarus trade hits $34 billion record in 2008 - Putin

MOSCOW, January 30 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia-Belarus trade hit a record of $34 billion last year, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

"We must take the most energetic efforts to consolidate positive results of Russia-Belarus cooperation, including the large amount of bilateral trade. Experts say that trade exceeded $34 billion last year," he noted.

"We must act together in order to minimize the negative impact of the world crisis on our economies. We must use benefits of integration, develop trade and industrial cooperation," he said.

"The customs union and the common economic space are our priorities. Ministerial contacts are bound to spur on this work," he said.
