Belarus, India can use non-monetary forms of payment more

In view of the global economic crisis Belarus and India can step up the use of non-monetary forms of payment, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Rajendra Kumar Tyagi as he met with Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Savchenko on January 9, reported Belta .

According to the Ambassador, despite the global crisis the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between India and Belarus is great. In 2009 the mutual trade turnover is expected to reach $500 million and the figure is not the limit. According to the Ambassador, nowadays the hard currency has become a mediator, which impedes trade. This is why special attention should be paid to arranging non-monetary forms of payment. In particular, the Ambassador mentioned large state-run Indian energy company BHEL, which is especially interested in promoting barter trade with Belarus.

Apart from that, Rajendra Kumar Tyagi pointed out the possibility of expanding educational and cultural ties, in particular, through exchange programmes for professionals. India can pay for traineeship of 30 Belarusian specialists in various industries every year.

The Ambassador also invited Grodno enterprises to participate in a specialised expo of Belarusian goods and services. The expo is expected to take place in Mumbai in March.
