Russia, Belarus fail to tap compromise solution on terms of oil supplies

MINSK, January 9 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Belarus have again failed to attain a compromise solution regarding the terms of Russian crude oil supplies to this country.

"In the course of another round of talks on the terms of crude oil supplies that were held in Moscow January 9, the Belarussian and the Russian delegations again failed to attain a compromise solution to the problems on the agenda or to sign the necessary documents," the Belarussian government's press service said.

The Belarussian delegation left for Minsk.

Delegation members led by First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko presented a well-substantiated position at the talks. "It was based on the effective bilateral documents and backed up by computations that were precisely coordinated by Belarussian and Russian experts in the course of consultations held previously."

"Still, the arguments and calculations voiced by the Belarussian side were de facto ignored by the Russian delegation," the government's press service said.

It indicated at the same time that the sides exchanged written memoranda on their positions at the end of the day.

During the previous rounds of talks that were held December 30 and December 31, 2009, as well January 6 and January 7, 2010, experts from the two countries also failed to bridge the gap in their positions on the crucial issues under discussion and to sign the required documents.
