Poland's Kulczyk Holding to build power station in Belarus

Kulczyk Holding owned by Polish billionaire Jan Kulczyk and Belarusian state energy industry concern Belenergo are to develop a coal-fired power plant in Belarus.

The investment is worth EUR 1.5 billion, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna newspaper reports. The town of Zelva, located 70 km from the Polish-Belarusian border, has been picked as the site for the 1000MW power plant.

Kulczyk Holding is to finance the investment. Power produced in the plant which is scheduled to start operating in 2014, will be exported to Poland. The necessary infrastructure for exporting the energy between the bordering countries does not exist, therefore an additional link will be built in Belarus to connect the two grids, wnp.pl informs.
