Turkmen-Belarusian relations to reach new level

In 2009 the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Belarus increased by 50 per cent, Alexander Lukashenko said today during his meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Minsk on an official visit.

In turn, the Turkmen leader said that countries have "all means to bring the relationship to a new level that meets fully the interests of both nations." "We are still not satisfied with the existing volume of trade and the intensity of investments," he said.

As BELTA news agency reports, the head of Turkmenistan expressed confidence in the further successful development of trade and economic cooperation in the field of automotive, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, communications and telecommunications. "We are looking forward to increasing the supply of light and textile industry products," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

According to him, Turkmenistan is interested in Belarus's assistance in sharing technological expertise in the chemical industry, agriculture, food production.

The President of Turkmenistan proposed to introduce the practice of conducting the Belarusian-Turkmen business forums with participation of public and private entities. "This format helps to ensure that our intentions are supported with concrete actions." he said.
