Belarussian leader receives accreditation letters of African envoys

APA-Moscow (Russia) The Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko on Friday received the credentials from the ambassadors of Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to Belarus, APA learns from Moscow.

Addressing the ambassadors, Lukashenko said that Belarus favoured the building of a well-balanced relationship both with the East and with the West, and would continue to pursue pragmatism and consistency in Belarussian foreign policy.

"We will remain committed to these principles which allow us to fully realize the opportunities for cooperation with the outside world," he pointed out, and further stressed that Belarus has always stood ready for mutually beneficial partnership and always will.

"There is only one condition that we set forth : to respect our people and to be willing to work with us without harbouring evil intentions, without pressure, in a sincere, fair and open manner," Lukashenko stressed.

The President said he hoped that over time they would recognize Belarus as a reliable and promising partner and would communicate to their peoples and governments an objective understanding of Belarus which is open to the outside world, new contacts, fruitful cooperation with all states.

"I think the main task of diplomats and policy-makers should be to make efforts to bring people closer to each other, reach mutual understanding rather than dig out reasons for mutual reproaches," he said.

"You will get to know Belarus as an independent state which occupies its deserving place in the world community. In the core of our foreign policy there lies our love of peace, respect for people, good-neighborliness, non-intrusion into home affairs of other states and commitment to developing strong economic and cultural ties," Lukashenko concluded.
