Two Russians charged in Belarus protest

MINSK, Belarus, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Belarus police said Wednesday they have charged two Russians for participating in an election protest that turned violent.

Thousands took to the streets of Minsk Dec. 19 when President Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner with 79.9. percent. The opposition charged vote fraud.

More than 600 protesters were arrested and given jail sentences of 10 to 15 days but some were later released, RIA Novosti reported.
