Opposition leader to remain under arrest in Belarus

A city court in Minsk has ruled out to keep the former presidential candidate Vladimir Neklyayev under arrest, the RIA-Novosti news agency reports citing a spokesperson with the court.

Mr. Neklyayev and several other former presidential candidates were charged with staging riots on 19th of December in Minsk after it was announced that Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected as the leader of Belarus.

In all, 600 people, including 11 Russians, were detained during the riots.

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on Belarus to release opposition leaders.
