Belarus' opposition leader released on recognizance not to leave

MINSK, January 3 (Itar-Tass) - Ex-candidate for Belarus' presidential seat and the deputy head of the Christian Business Initiative Movement, Vitaly Rymashevsky, was released on recognizance not to leave, the press service of the party that is being created by the politician said on Monday.

"On January 1, Rymashevsky was released from a detention centre of the KGB security forces on recognizance not to leave," he said. "He wrote an explanatory note to President Lukashenko. All details will be made public at a news conference on January 4."

On December 19, the election day in Belarus, opposition members protested against the election results. The protests turned into riots and clashes with police and security forces. Hundreds of protesters were detained.

Over 20 people, including opposition figures, who ran in the presidential race, were charged with organizing riots. Most of them remain under arrest.
