Belarusian oppositionist to be deprived of son

The three-year old son of a former candidate for Belarusian presidency Andrey Sannikov and his wife, journalist Irina Khalip, who were arrested right after the presidential elections, will be handed over to his grandmother. This was revealed by Belarusian children's ombudsperson Antonina Drugakova.

On December 19, the next day after Alexander Lukashenko was reelected as Belarus's president, the opposition held a rally in the country's capital Minsk. After clashes with police, over one thousand of the rally's participants, including nearly all former candidates for presidency, were arrested.
