Belarus parliament session to confirm appointment of new PM

Minsk, Jan 27 (Itar-Tass) The Belarusian parliament willconvene for an extraordinary session today to confirm theappointment of Mikhail Myasnikovich as the new Prime Minister.

"Pursuant to the Constitution of Belarus, the head ofstate ruled to convene an extraordinary session of the Houseof Representatives (lower house of parliament) in Minsk onJanuary 27 for confirming the appointment of the PrimeMinister and consideration of other issues, if need be," thepresidential press service told Itar-Tass earlier.

The new Prime Minister already visited Moscow last week.

It was his first working trip.

Myasnikovich was the head of the Belarusian Academy ofSciences before the appointment. Belarusian PresidentAlexander Lukashenko described the new Prime Minister as avery flexible person capable of organising collegial work ofthe new government.

Lukashenko accepted the resignation of the previousgovernment on December 27, 2010, following his re-election fora new term. (Itar-Tass)
