Belarus' State Security Committee sought criminal charges against the Zgoda newspaper for printing caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, Interfax reported.

The inquiry by the republic's prosecutor's office and State Security Committee was conducted at the request of the committee for religious and ethnic affairs and the Muslim community of Belarus, an unidentified source told the news agency.

The newspaper is accused of inciting racial, ethnic and religious hatred by publishing the cartoons that have sparked Muslim protests around the world.
