KGB of Belarus accuses Polish embassy of espionage

State security committee (KGB) of Belarus has announced that Polish diplomatic mission in Minsk has turned into an anthill of foreign intelligence services, "with all types of intelligence activities involved" online newspaper GazetaSNG reports on February 8, referring to Gazeta.ru online site that quotes an anonymous Belarus KGB employee who told this on Belarus public TV film "Agent 590". The KGB employee stated that Belarus intelligence services have revealed facts of "agents' intelligence activities behind a diplomatic smokescreen". Besides, the film contained accusations aimed at the public society "Dialog"; - according to Belarus KGB this NGO has allegedly been "a cover for conducting intelligence operations on the CIS territory". The authors of the film told on TV broadcast that the former British intelligence officer Robert Fox as a head of the organization was the best proof of their argument, GazetaSNG writes. "One common task has united all of them: to initiate an informational come-off, to inflate a scandal," said the Head of the Belarus KGB Information and Public relations center Valery Nadtochayev. A KGB spokesman said that foreign spies have stepped up their activities in the country ahead of March`s presidential election. "Such political events inside our country as local, parliamentary and presidential elections attract the attention of foreign secret services, diplomats and representatives of various non-governmental organizations and foundations like magnet. All of them are united by a common task involving the collection of biased information about events in our country and the creation of newsbreaks, especially those connected with so-called human rights violations", said Nadtochayev, reminding also the story of extradition of Polish diplomats from Belarus earlier, the online paper adds. To remind, three Polish diplomats had been expelled from Belarus for alleged spying last year. The official accused the United States of funding efforts to orchestrate scandals in Belarus. "The task is to create a newsbreak, to magnify something to scandal, with all available means involved. If there`s no cause, why not invent it? The more so as this work is lavishly financed above all by the United States. We should note that the diplomats whom we have valid grounds to suspect of affiliation with foreign secret services are most active in this work", Nadtochayev said.
