Belarus has adopted a regulation requiring internet cafe owners to keep an electronic register of the domain names of the sites accessed by users, reports E-Belarus.org.
The regulation, adopted on 10 February 2005, stipulates that the owners keep a log going back a minimum of 12 months. The logs can be reviewed by police or state security agents, and internet cafe owners are required to inform law enforcement when unauthorized sites are accessed. Internet cafes are not allowed to use programmes advocating violence or pornography. They are also not allowed to disseminate banned information.
