Polish court to expel Belarusian orphan

A 10-month old Belarusian boy suffering from cystic fibrosis, born in Poland, will return to Belarus, ruled a court in Lublin, eastern Poland.

The boy is suffering from a chronic genetic disease. His mother renounced parental rights, the father's identity is unknown. The boy's foster mother decided not to re-apply for prolongation of her rights as primary caregiver.

On the basis of an interstate agreement in 1994, the court has ruled to send the boy back to Belarus, where he will be placed in an orphanage.

"A lot of people declare their willingness to take care of the boy, but there is nothing we can do about it," said judge Stlemaszczuk-Taracha from the Lublin court, quoted by "Rzeczpospolita".
