Belarus, EU to hold consultations on agriculture, standardization and finance

Belarus and the European Union have agreed to hold consultations between experts on agriculture, standardization and finance, Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov told the First TV Channel in an interview, BelTA has learnt.

During the recent session with the EU Troika, the sides discussed the cooperation in terms of such important infrastructure projects as railway, automobile and aviation transport routes, the cooperation in energy area. The EU and Belarus have already started to discuss the major part of these issues at the level of experts.

Sergei Martynov noted that the sides have agreed to start consultations on agriculture as well. Agricultural export to Europe is very important for Belarus. The sides will start cooperation in standardization area. As Belarus is an export-based country, then it would be logical if the country started to use gradually the standards, which are close or identical to the European ones to make Belarusian products competitive on the European market.

According to Sergei Martynov, Belarus and the European Union have agreed to hold consultations on finance and economic issues, as, at some stage of the development of the Eastern Partnership, Belarus will able to use the finance and credit resources, which are unavailable for it so far, such as more serious use of the resources of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
