Iran, Belarus Expanding Economic Cooperation

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and Belarus are implementing joint ventures worth USD1.5 billion, officials announced during a session of the two countries' joint economic cooperation in Minsk.

"Today the total cost of the projects makes up $1.5 billion. I am speaking about the projects which are currently underway," Belarusian Industry Minister and co-chairman of the commission Anatoly Rusetsky said.

Rusetsky reminded that the previous session of the commission was held one and a half years ago in Tehran. According to his estimation, since that time trade turnover increased and reached almost $100.

"Yet, this is far below the trade volume set forth by the presidents of the two countries," he said.

The minister said he is confident that Iran-Belarus trade can be increased to $1 billion and that the goal can be met within several years.

The minister is confident that close cooperation in the conditions of global crisis would allow "reaching even greater results".

He also assured representatives of the Iranian delegation that his country's interest in cooperation with Iran is growing with every year, Interfax reported.

In his turn, Iran's Commerce Minister Masoud Mir-Kazemi, the co-chairman of the commission for Iran, said that Iran is interested in cooperation with Belarus as well.

He said that the huge potential of Iran-Belarus cooperation lies in oil and gas industries, manufacturing industry, healthcare and sci-tech services.

"We need to make all efforts to reach the trade of $1 billion. We hope that our talks will promote further development of trade and economic relations between the countries," he said.

The head of the Iranian delegation said the sides are to sign an agreement summing up the results of the session.
