Belarusian Movement Promises Surprises On Valentine's Day

MINSK, February 13, 2009 (RFE/RL) -- Activists from Belarus's Youth Front movement told RFE/RL's Belarus Service that they are going to celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14 with a lot of surprises despite being refused official permission for a rally.

The Youth Front's Nastya Palazhanka said the activists will visit all EU embassies in Minsk and march through the city. She said there will also be a concert on Yakub Kolas Square at 1800 Minsk time.

Palazhanka added that there will be many surprises during the movement's Valentine's Day celebrations, though she gave no details.

Minsk officials denied a request from the Youth Front to hold the celebrations, but the group's leaders told RFE/RL that the celebrations will take place as planned.
