Belarusian police disperse protest

MINSK, Belarus (AP) - Belarusian police have forcibly broken up a rally of about 100 opposition demonstrators.

The activists were rallying to protest the authoritarian policies of President Alexander Lukashenko's government. They held banners saying and Riot police quickly dispersed the protest Monday, beating some of the demonstrators with truncheons.

Lukashenko has ruled the ex-Soviet nation with an iron hand since 1994, quashing dissent and resisting free-market reforms. The United States and the European Union have dubbed Lukashenko Source:
