Bar Mitzvah for Bobruisk

BOBRUISK, Belarus - In the Belarus city of Bobruisk, a very welcome development has occurred in the life of the local Jewish community. Yesterday, the Synagogue hosted the ceremony for the Bar Mitzvah of one young man.

Led by Chief Rabbi of Bobruisk Boruch Lamdan, who also serves in the region as a Chabad Lubavitch emissary, 13-year-old Roman Dubasov proudly underwent his coming of age, Jewish style, in the presence of his peers, family, friends and other community members. In addition to pursuing studies at the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School here, the teenager actively attended special classes to prepare for this live-changing event under the guidance of Rabbi Lamdan.

During the ceremony, which took place in careful observance of all necessary Jewish traditions, Roman was summoned to read from the Torah scroll for the first time in his life. "The atmosphere during the ceremony was reflective, joy-filled and very touching," commented Galina Dubasova, the boy's mother. "Even as soon as this ceremony was completed, it seemed that my son had visibly matured".

The Jewish community of Bobruisk, the Association of Jewish Communities of Belarus and the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS would like to congratulate Roman Dubasov on the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah.
