Belarus, Russia Presidents to meet one-on-one ahead of SSC session

The session of the Supreme State Council (SSC) of the Union State will take place in Moscow. President of Belarus, Chairman of the Supreme State Council Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev are set to meet one-on-one ahead of the SSC session, BelTA learnt from the president's press service.

The SSC session is to consider a set of coordinated measures for mitigating the impact of the global financial and economic crisis on the economies of Belarus and Russia, proposals on expanding the Belarusian-Russian cooperation, first of all, in the trade and economic area, collaboration in the financial and credit sector.

The Supreme State Council is set to approve the plan of joint actions of the governments of Belarus and Russia to mitigate the crisis, improve the balance of payment and business environment and increase mutual trade. The document was signed by the prime ministers of the two countries at the session of the Union State Council of Ministers on January 30.

Apart from that, several joint documents are supposed to be signed in Moscow.

The programme of coordinated action in foreign policy of the members-parties to the Union State Treaty for 2008-2009 will be submitted for the approval of the Supreme State Council. The document will help integrate the resources of the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia to pursue the consistent foreign policy which is one of the main goals of the Union State formation.

The session will consider several budget issues and approve the Union State budget for 2009. This year the Union State budget will reach RUB 4.9 billion. Forty-two programmes, sub-programmes and measures are to be financed from the Union State budget in 2009.
