Azerbaijan-Belarus trade turnover can make $500 million if number of commodity items increases up to 400

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Rate of Azerbaijani output export to Belarus is growing.

Nikolay Patskevich, the Byelorussian ambassador to Azerbaijan, said that the rate of growth of export from Belarus to Azerbaijan reached 122% in 2008 and vice versa 190% that testifies that export of Azerbaijani commodities increases faster than export from Belarus to Azerbaijan.

"Among export products are output of chemical industry, vegetables, nuts, and juices, and two years ago goods supplied by Azerbaijan to Belarus were measured by no more than 10 commodity items, now there are already approximately 30 commodity items delivered to Belarus. It testifies that work in this direction is underway and the result is on hand," Patskevich said.

More than 95% of Azerbaijani export to Belarus still falls on the share of oil and petroleum products.

"We predict that this year the growth of export from Belarus to Azerbaijan, if of course nothing extraordinary occurs, will be 15%, while export from Azerbaijan to Belarus is expected to increase 1/5 fold as minimum," the Byelorussian diplomat said.

Azerbaijan produces goods which Belarus does not make. Besides, channels of supplies, conditions for storage of goods are improved more clearly every year.

The two countries' leaders set a challenge to achieve bilateral trade turnover up to $500 million a year but for that the turnover should include some 400 commodity items. When the Byelorussian Embassy was opened two and half years ago our countries numbered a little more than 150 commodity items and following last year the figure reached about 232 commodity items," Patskevich emphasized.
