Azerbaijan and Belarus businessmen reach agreements on cooperation

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-ECONOMICS. Businesspeople from Azerbaijan and Belarus reached several agreements on cooperation after a bilateral meeting that took place in Baku on February 3, said the Ambassador of Belarus to Azerbaijan Nikolai Pazkevich.

According to him, his country attaches great importance to the development of economic cooperation and relations in other areas with Azerbaijan.

He added that the Belarus-Azerbaijan intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation is scheduled to meet in Minsk in two month.

He said that trade turnover between the two countries reached $111 million given the figure was $30 million two years ago.

"We had predicted that the trade turnover would reach $120 million, but $111 million was not unsatisfactory result amid the financial crisis. We assume that the dynamics of the import-export operations between the countries in 2009 will remain at the level of last year," he added.

Nikolai Sakhar, the first deputy of Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Belarus, said a number of agreements were signed after the yesterday's business meeting in Baku.

"Given $25 000 worth of veterinary medicines were imported to Azerbaijan from Belarus, the imports will double this year, according to the agreements," he added.

According to him, the parties came to agreement to export artificial leather to Azerbaijan and open a furniture making plant in Azerbaijan.
