No pressure on Belarus in recognition of S.Ossetia and Abkhazia, Alexander Lukashenko says

Belarus defies any pressure, either from Europe or Russia, in the issue of recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview to the Euronews, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

"We have an elected parliament, it will discuss the issue, a proposition will be tabled within our legislation, and we will solve the issue," Alexander Lukashenko said. "I believe Belarus will act pragmatically and wisely towards the peoples of Abkhazia and South Ossetia," he added.

The Head of State stressed: "It is our sovereignty whether to recognize them or not. We will consider this issue with calmness as Russia and other countries did". The Head of State said he had never promised Europe to refuse recognition to these countries in exchange of good relations with EU.

According to the president, Belarus has always had close relations with South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
