Belarus: cereal products department increased groats production by 3.9%

In 2009, the enterprises of the cereal products department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus produced 46.2 thsd tonnes of groats products, an increase of 3.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, informed the department.

During the last year, organizations of the department produced 35.7 thsd tonnes of groats, up 3.7% compared to the level of 2008. In particular, the organizations produced 9.1 thsd tonnes of pearl barley (down 9.6% compared to 2008), 7.7 thsd tonnes of fine ground barley (down 19.4%), 5 thsd tonnes of wheat groats (down 10.5%), including also 4.1 thsd tonnes of semolina groats (up 7%).

According to specialists of the department, demand in pearl barley lowered, but the demand in oats and buckwheat groats grew. Oatmeal and buckwheat groats production volumes increased by 22.9% (to 4.6 thsd tonnes) and 47.1% (to 8 thsd tonnes), respectively.

The plants produced 10.3 thsd tonnes of fast-cooked groats products, an increase of 4.7% compared to the period of 2008.

According to information of the department, in January 2010, the enterprises produced 3.5 thsd tonnes of groats products, down 22.9% compared to the level of January 2009, including 2.5 thsd tonnes of groats (down 32.8%). In particular, the organizations produced 264 tonnes of pearl barley (down 74%), 394 tonnes of fine ground barley (down 64%), 317 tonnes of oatmeal groats - down 22.5%. At the same time, production volumes of wheat groats grew by 48%, to the level of 460 tonnes.

The general production volumes of fast-cooked groats products increased by 13.3% - to the level of 1 thsd tonnes.
