Iran, Belarus stress expansion of cooperation

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the country backs expansion of mutual relations with Belarus.

"Given current economic and political situation, boosting bilateral cooperation and relations benefits Iran and Belarus and regional equations," Ahmadinejad said during a meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov in Tehran.

Sergei Martynov on his part said, "Iran is an important and influential country in the region and Belarus wants to strengthen relations with the country."

He also called for the necessity of bilateral strategic cooperation on energy and said, "Belarus is ready to boost cooperation with Iran in all fields particularly on energy."
