Lukashenko replies to Kaczynski letter over Polish minority in Belarus

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has replied to a letter sent to him by his Polish counterpart Lech Kaczynski regarding the situation of the Polish minority in Belarus.

In the letter, "Mr Lukashenko responded to all the posed questions by the Polish president and expressed his hope for a balanced and sincere dialogue between Belarus and Poland for the further development of friendly and good neighborly relations between [the two] countries," the Belarusian embassy in Poland wrote in a statement.

Mr Kaczynski expressed his strong concern and opposition to the increasing repression against the Union of Poles in Belarus, in his letter dated February 16.

"The President pointed to the need to respect human rights, which are the foundation of modern European societies," the President's chancellery said. (RG)
