New Rules for Pork Imports to Belarus

The government has set out the rules for allocating pork tariff quotas in 2010.

The Government of Belarus has laid down the rules for allocating tariff quotas for pork import in 2010, reports the Belarusian Telegraph Agency, BelTA. The relevant resolution has been adopted by the Council of Ministers, according to the Office of the Council of Ministers.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has been authorised to allocate pork tariff quotas.

From 1 January to 1 August 2010, 100 per cent tariff quotas for the import of fresh, cooled and frozen pork (number 0203 in the single commodity classification of the foreign economic activity of the Customs Union) will be distributed between the participants of the foreign trade activity who imported pork in 2008 and 2009 proportionally to the average amount of pork imported in 2008 and from 1 January to 20 November 2009 (except for the pork coming from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan).

From 15 September 2010, the tariff quotas will be allocated upon the applications of the participants of foreign trade activities who had received the quotas before 1 August 2010 proportionally to the average amount of pork they imported in Belarus in 2008 and 2009 (except for the pork coming from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan).

The Resolution complies with Decree No. 130 of the Customs Union of 27 November 2009 and the agreement on the mechanisms of tariff quota application of 12 December 2008.
