Belarus: Opposition Leader Could Face Jail Time

Belarusian opposition leader Alexander Kozulin, a presidential candidate in the country's recent March 19 elections, has been charged with public order offenses and "hooliganism" and could face up to five years in prison, Kozulin's wife Irina said March 31. She said "the political subtext of the case -- eliminating a political rival -- is self-evident." She added that she will go to the Russian parliament with documents proving her husband's innocence and seek its support.
