Belarussian debt shrinks 2.1% in Jan

MINSK. March 1 (Interfax) - Belarussian state debt shrunk 2.1% in January 2007 to 6.81 trillion Belarussian rubles, the Belarussian Finance Ministry told Interfax.

The debt grew 6.5% in December 2006 after rising 1.6% in November.

Domestic debt accounted for 73.5% of the total state debt on February 1, 2007 and for 74.2% on January 1, 2007. Domestic debt dropped 3.2% to 5.002 trillion rubles in January. The domestic state debt grew 5.6% in December 2006 after growing 1.3% in November. The federal budget for 2007 puts a cap on the domestic state debt at 3% of GDP.

The domestic debt includes loans issued by the National Bank of Belarus to finance the central budget deficit (around 25%), government securities (60%), funds frozen at Vnesheconombank USSR as of January 1, 1992 and due to be repaid to enterprises (10%) and other liabilities (5%).
