Father of Belarusian orphan found

An inhabitant of Lublin, eastern Poland, has admitted to fathering the 11-month-old Belorussian boy suffering from cystic fibrosis.

Once this has been formally certified by the prosecutor's office, the boy will be granted Polish citizenship and will not be deported to Belarus.

The father also announced he would renounce parental rights, adding that he could not afford the treatment of the sick boy. The mother, an illegal immigrant from Belarus, did the same right after the baby was born.

The boy is currently being treated in a hospital in Gdansk, northern Poland. Doctors warned that deporting him to Belarus could seriously aggravate his condition.
