Belarusian opposition clash with police in downtown Minsk

MINSK, March 25 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarusian opposition members clashed with police on the Minsk central avenue on Tuesday evening.

Several hundreds of opposition members tried to break into the Yakub Kolos Square through police cordons for celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian People's Republic. Meanwhile, authorities offered them a different place for celebrations. Clashes occurred.

The opposition members were waiving white-red-white flags and chanting, "Freedom!", "Independence!" and "Long Live Belarus!"

Meanwhile, the authorized opposition action has begun near the Academy of Sciences. Several dozens of people are holding a poster, which reads "Freedom to [opposition leader Alexander] Kozulin!"
