China, Belarus ink RMB 20 bln currency swap deal

Mar. 12, 2009 (China Knowledge) - The People's Bank of China(PBOC), the central bank in the country, has signed an RMB 20-bln currency swap agreement with the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, according to a statement on PBOC's website on Wednesday.

The deal, targeting to faciltate bilateral trade and investment to boost economic growth in both countries, allows the two banks to swap the agreed sum of money in three years, which can be extended if both parties agree, said the statement.

So far, China has sealed such currency swap agreements with South Korea, Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR government, which totals RMB 460 billion.
