First meeting of EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly postponed

Baku. Viktoria Dementieva - APA. The EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly established within the EU Eastern Partnership program has postponed its first meeting scheduled for March 23-24 in Brussels, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Mahmud Mammadguliyev told APA.

The meeting has been postponed as Belarus and the European Parliament failed to reach an agreement on 10 representatives who will represent Belarus in the assembly. Belarus wants 10 representatives to be parliamentarians, but the European Parliament passed a decision to invite representatives of Belarus opposition and nongovernmental organizations. The first meeting of EURONEST will be scheduled after the local elections in Belarus on April 25.

Totally 120 persons will be represented in the EURONEST - 10 representatives from each of the six post-Soviet republics - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova and 60 representatives from the European Union.
