Iran, Belarus Sign MoU on Road Transportation Cooperation

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and Belarus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation between the two countries in area of road transportation.

"The two countries cooperation on all road transportation fields has entered a new phase with the memorandum of understanding singed between Iran's Minister of Road and Transportation and Belarusian Minister of Transport and Communications," Road Maintenance and Transport Organization said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Iran's Minister of Road and Transportation Hamid Behbahani visited Belarus at an invitation extended by his Belarusian counterpart. During their meeting, the two ministers underlined the necessity to implement agreements between Tehran and Minsk to expand international transit of goods and passengers.

They also called on the two sides' authorities to pursue earlier agreements on establishment of Iran-Belarus Joint Trade Meeting.

Deputy Road and Transportation Minister and Head of Iran's Road Maintenance and Transport Organization Shahryar Afandizadeh, who accompanied Behbahani in the visit, said that the Belarusian border customs were required to boost assistance and cooperation in inspecting Iranian trucks and customs formalities.

He added that the two sides also agreed to extend cooperation in reopening the Dagestan route to facilitate Iranian trucks' access to Belarus.
