Venezuela, Belarus to Strengthen Strategic Alliance

Venezuela and Belarus are promoting today their strategic alliance with regard to energy, industry, agriculture and technology with the arrival of President Alexander Lukashenko to this capital.

Prior to the Russian President's visit, teams of both countries reviewed the existing agreements and the possibilities to expand them during a meeting closed on Friday by President Hugo Chavez at Miraflores Palace.

According to the socialist leader, the bilateral relations are an example of cooperation and solidarity in view of the international financial crisis.

There were no links between Venezuela and Belarus four years ago, but, in 2009, we reached $200 million in exchange and the potential is greater, maybe around two billion or more, he said.

According to Chavez, the former soviet republic has a lot to contribute given the experience and development it has in sectors as the automotive industry, technology, optical, agricultural, forest, military, textile services and housing, among others.

Regarding Venezuelan exports to Russia, the leader stated his interest in sending rice, condensed milk, coffee, cocoa and fruits.

Our objective is to diversify exports to leave the mono production of oil behind, he said.

Chavez also considered that the analysis of the increase of the bilateral fund must be a priority during Lukashenko's visit.
