(Reuters) - Belarus has proposed to Russian mobile telecoms firm MTS (MBT.N) that the company buys the Minsk government's controlling stake in a local MTS unit for $1 billion, President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday.
"We are not against this: just pay $1 billion," state news agency BELTA quoted him as saying. "If you (MTS) want to buy, just go ahead. Otherwise, we'll put it up for an auction."
MTS in Moscow declined to comment on the matter. (Writing by Olzhas Auyezov; Editing by Richard Balmforth)
