Two Ukrainians remain in Belarus custody

A Ukrainian who spent 15 days in custody in Belarus returned home on Wednesday. He was arrested for participating in opposition demonstrations in the aftermath of last month's presidential elections in that country.

Two more Ukrainians remain in the custody of Belarusian authorities, according to the Foreign ministry. In total, nearly 600 people were arrested in Belarus for participating in "non-sanctioned demonstrations" in support of the opposition. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Belarus rejected claims challenging election results submitted by opposition candidates Alyaksandr Milinkevych and Alyaksandr Kozulin. The issue of the Belarus presidential elections was before the European parliament on Wednesday. European legislators reportedly considered putting into place new sanctions on Belarus that could be in force as soon as April 10th.
