Belarus may buy electricity in Kazakhstan

MINSK. April 28. KAZINFORM. Belarus is discussing the possibility of getting electricity in Kazakhstan, Belarus Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadiuk told media on Friday.

He noted, issues related to the transit of electricity within the Eurasian Economic Community had been discussed at a session of the Energy Policy Council under the EurAsEC Integration Committee in Minsk that day. In particular, the session tabled the progress in fulfilling instructions to ensure electricity transit from Central Asia, first of all, Kazakhstan via the Russian Federation to Belarus. According to Mikhail Mikhadiuk, the volume of the supplies is negotiated.

At present Belarus imports over five billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from Ukraine and Russia per annum. "We are seeking partners and possibilities on mutually beneficial conditions in other regions, too", said the Deputy Energy Minister, Kazinform quotes National Legal Internet Portal.
