Belarus apologizes to Lithuania for journalists' detention

VILNIUS, April 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarus has offered its apologies to Lithuania for the detention of a group of Lithuanian television journalists late last March.

According to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry's press-service the Belarussian ambassador in Lithuania, Vladimir Drazhin, met with the ministry's state secretary, Laimonas Talat-Kelpsa, to apologize for a recent incident involving Lithuanian mass media workers.

The television journalists were detained in Minsk on March 25 during an unauthorized mass demonstration by the Belarussian Opposition, which had urged its supporters to gather in Yakub Kolos Square for a march on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Belarussian People's Republic.

The camera crew was detained and taken to a police station to be questioned for about an hour. That happened despite the fact the Lithuanian journalists enjoyed the Belarussian Foreign Ministry's accreditation.
