Byelorussian orphan returns to mother

The mother of Jas, the Belarusian boy born with cystic fibrosis, has regained her parental rights.

Madzina Iwanow, mother of one-year-old Jas, renounced parental rights after giving birth in one of the hospitals in Lublin, eastern Poland. The court ruled to extradite the boy to Belarus, but after its Polish father was found, the boy received Polish citizenship.

The mother then decided to apply to regaining her parental rights, to which the court agreed. Consequently, the decision to place the boy with a replacement family was cancelled.

Jas is currently in hospital, but as soon as he is released, he will be taken home, assures the mother.

Together with her two other children, Madzina Iwanow is waiting for the court's decision concerning her application for permit of permanent stay in Poland.
