Vietnam and Belarus to boost legislative co-operation

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and visiting Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko shared the same view that the two countries' parliaments are required to strengthen co-operation.

At a meeting with President Lukashenko in Hanoi on April 4 Chairman Trong affirmed that Vietnam always attached importance to development of traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation with Belarus.

He added that the Vietnam visit by the Belorusian President, who is accompanied by several ministers, and representatives of large companies, was a good opportunity for the two sides to work out measures to boost economic, commercial and investment relations.

President Lukashenko stressed that Vietnam-Belarus together with the fine political relations, the two countries have co-ordinated well at multilateral forums, sharing the same views on many international issues.

The President said that his visit was aimed at boosting multifaceted co-operation between the two countries, particularly in economies and trade. He said the annual 70 million USD turnover in two-way trade was too small to the two countries' potential.

Saying that relations between parliaments of the two countries have seen fruitful development recently, Lukashenko expressed his wish that the two legislative bodies would further enhance co-operation to contribute to developing the relations between Belarus and Vietnam. (VNA)
