Vietnam and Belarus tie in wide-ranging co-operation

Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko's visit to Vietnam was highlighted on April 7 with the signing of nine co-operative pacts that look to give a boost to the two countries' wide-range relationships.

The signing was witnessed by both visiting President Alexander Lukashenko and President Nguyen Minh Triet after their talks.

Prominent among those documents inked were a consular agreement between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Republic of Belarus, and the accords on co-operation and mutual support in the customs service and on epidemic quarantine and vegetation protection between the two Governments.

The others included an audit agreement between the Vietnam Government Inspectorate and the Belarus State Inspection Committee, a co-operation pact on sports and tourism between the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and the Belarus Ministry of Sports and Tourism.

The Ho Chi Minh National Politics-Administration Institute tied in a co-operative deal with the Management Institute under the Belorussian President.

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group signed a frame agreement on oil, gas and petrochemical industries with the Belarus National Petrochemical Consortium, while the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development reached a co-operation agreement with the Belarus Saving Joint Stock Bank.

The Vietnam Lawyers Association and the "Belarus Lawyers' Association" Organisation agreed on legal co-operation and information exchange.

The signing ceremony was then followed by the two Presidents' meeting with the local and foreign press.

President Triet said those issues that he agreed with President Lukashenko at the talks will serve as guidance for the two countries' government ministries, sectors and businesses to boost their co-operation in the coming time.

"Belorussian investors are always greeted in Vietnam," President Triet affirmed.

Taking the floor, President Lukashenko noted that his country gives a special attention to promoting bilateral ties, particularly in economy and trade, with Vietnam.

He stated, "Vietnam is Belarus's key partner in Southeast Asia".

The Belorussian President revealed a plan to build a plant which manufactures engines, especially diesel engines, in Vietnam and transfer the technology in the field to the host country later.

He also spoke of his country's willingness to aid Vietnam in training experts in the fields of need and to expand scientific and technical collaboration. (VNA)
