VN, Belarus sign nine pacts

HA NOI - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's visit to Viet Nam was highlighted on Monday with the signing of nine co-operative pacts.

The signings were witnessed by both visiting President Alexander Lukashenko and President Nguyen Minh Triet after their talks.

Prominent among those documents inked were a consular agreement between the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Republic of Belarus, and co-operation and support accords in customs services, epidemic quarantines and vegetation protection between the two governments.

Others documents included an audit agreement between the Viet Nam Government Inspectorate and the Belarus State Inspection Committee, and a sports and tourism co-operation pact between the Viet Nam Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Belarus Ministry of Sports and Tourism.

The Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy also signed a co-operative deal with the Management Institute under the Belarusian President.

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group signed an agreement on oil, gas and petrochemicals with the Belarus National Petrochemical Consortium, while the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development reached a co-operation agreement with the Belarus Savings Joint Stock Bank.

The Vietnam Lawyers Association and the Belarus Lawyers Association Organisation agreed on legal co-operation and information exchanges.

The signing ceremony was then followed by a press meeting with the two Presidents.

"Belarusian investors are always welcome in Viet Nam," President Triet affirmed.

Taking the floor, President Lukashenko noted that his country put special focus on promoting bilateral ties, particularly economic and trade ties, with Viet Nam.

He stated, "Viet Nam is Belarus's key partner in Southeast Asia."

The Belarusian President revealed a plan to build a plant manufacturing engines, specifically diesel engines, in Viet Nam and to transfer the technology in the field to the host country later.

He also spoke of his country's willingness to aid Viet Nam in training experts in needed fields and to expand scientific and technical collaboration. - VNS
